Vikings defeat Weatherford in overtime thriller

Julian Greer hit the game-tying three with 40 seconds remaining in the second half to force overtime and Jordan Williams took over in overtime to help the Vikings defeat the Coyotes of Weatherford 75-72.
The Vikings were off and running, jumping out to an early 8-0 lead getting three's by Judah Peña and Greer. Weatherford went scoreless for the first nearly four minutes of the game, getting a layup with 16:11 left in the first half. That started an 8-0 run of their own to tie the game. Caleb Alcineus broke the Vikings scoreless drought with a contested drive and layup to regain the lead at 10-8. Peña answered with another three to extend the Grayson lead to five points. Alcineus made it a 9-0 Viking run with another contested layup to push the lead to 17-8. Gelonni Ervin's fade away jumper gave the Vikings their largest lead of the half, a 22-10 advantage with 5:25 left in the half. The Coyotes closed the half on a 13-5 run, but the Vikings maintained a five point advantage; leading 28-23 at the half. 
Weatherford cut the Viking lead to 35-33, but Greer answered back with a three pointer to put it back to a five point advantage. Peña's third three of the game gave the Vikings a seven point lead after Weatherford cut it to four. Later in the half, the Coyote offense went on a 13-4 scoring run to erase the Viking lead, but Grayson answered right back, getting a three from Alcineus to tie things at 50 with 8:11 left in the second half. A 7-2 scoring run by Weatherford put the Vikings down five with just over five minutes to play, but they battled back. Williams sank a pair of free throws and Greer tied it at 57. The teams began to trade baskets, setting the stage for Greer's game tying three.
In overtime, Williams took over, hitting the go-ahead layup with 20 seconds left and coming up clutch at the free throw line to seal the win. 
Greer led the way with 20 points, going 5-8 from the three point line. Alcineus and Peña each had 17 points. Williams finished with 11 points and six rebounds. Gelonni Ervin continued to be a force on the defensive end, finishing with six blocks to go along with six points and seven rebounds.
The Vikings remain on the road, making the short trek to Collin College on Wednesday, Feb. 4. Tip-off is set for 7pm.
