Viking Baseball undefeated over Spring Break

The Viking baseball team capped off a undefeated spring break getting wins against Cisco, and TCS Post Grad. 

Cisco Game 1

The Vikings shut down a potential rally from Cisco with a 5-4 victory in Game one on Saturday, March 9.
Cisco got on the board first with an RBI double in the first inning, but the Grayson bats went right to work in the bottom of the first inning with two outs.
Walker Polk and Trey Oblas drew back-to-walks. Jackson Harrell scored one with an RBI double, and Cylan Madden followed up with a two run single, and the Vikings jumped ahead 3-1.
Cisco tied things up with a bases loaded walk, and hit by a pitch to draw even at 3-3 in the second inning. The score remained the same until the fourth inning. Jacob Lang, Blake McCarthy, and Sloan Barrett all drew walks to load the bases with one out. Polk dropped a single in the outfield to score two runs, and give Grayson the 5-3 lead.
Cisco scored a run on an RBI double with two out in the fifth to draw within a run, but Cade Sharp got the inning ending groundout to keep the Vikings in front. Beau Beatty and Clay Kemp locked things down in the final two innings to give the Vikings the victory.
Madden finished 2-3 with a pair of RBI, while Polk drove in two to lead the Vikings statistically.

Cisco Game 2

A four run fifth inning blew the game open in the Vikings favor as they cruised to a 9-1 victory to earn the split with Cisco.
Barrett led off the first inning with a single, and came around to score on a sacrifice fly from Polk to give Grayson the early 1-0 lead.
Cisco tied the game with a home run in the third inning, but the Vikings answered right back in the bottom of the third.
Kain Sanchez led off the inning with a single, and scored on a double from Barrett. He scored on an error and the Vikings led 3-1.
The offense continued producing in the fifth inning. Polk and Tyler Brodrick drew back-to-walks, and Trey Oblas scored one on the sacrifice fly. Harrell was hit by a pitch to load the bases, setting up a two run single from Brandon Seidmeyer. Sanchez followed up with a hard RBI single to put Grayson up 7-1.
A wild pitch in the seventh put the eighth run of the game on the board, and Oblas ended the game with an RBI groundout in the eighth inning.
Seidmeyer led the Viking offense with a 2-3 day at the plate, and two RBI. Oblas also drove in a pair of runs in the victory.
Kade Neuenschwander threw 7.1 innings, giving up just one run on six hits and striking out five. Mason Ruiz came on in relief and struck out the final two batters of the eighth inning. 

 

TCS Game 1

The bottom third of the Grayson batting order was key in a 6-1 victory over TCS in Game one on Sunday, March 17.
After a scoreless bottom of the first inning, the offense received some clutch two out baseball to erase an early 1-0 deficit.
Seidmeyer drew a one out walk. After a strikeout, Harrell drew a two out walk. Lang scored both runners with a two run double. McCarthy followed suit with a hard single to left to put Grayson up 3-1.
Trenton Shaw dominated in two innings out of the bullpen, striking out the side in the third inning. The score remained 3-1 until the sixth inning.
Madden led off the inning with a single, quickly moving to third base on two passed balls. He scored on a sacrifice fly from Harrell. Lang drew a walk, and scored on an RBI double from McCarthy. Some heads up baserunning from McCarthy allowed him to score on a fly ball from Barrett to secure the victory.
The bottom three of the lineup (Lang, Harrell and McCarthy) combined to go 3-6 with five RBI and three walks.
Trevor Tranberg started the game, throwing the first frame and recording two strikeouts. Shaw gave up one hit in two innings of work, striking out five. Ruiz struck out three in three innings out of the bullpen, and Cade Sharp struck out two to close out the seventh inning for the Vikings. 

 

TCS Game 2

A six run sixth inning was the difference in a 15-5 run rule victory by the Vikings in the final game on Sunday, March 17. 
Barrett scored a run in the first inning, putting the Vikings ahead early 1-0. TCS Post Grad tied the game in the second inning, but Grayson retook the lead in the bottom half of the second inning.
Seidmeyer and Madden led off the inning with back-to-back walks. Harrell reached on a bunt single, scoring a run on the error. Two batters later, Maldonado Jr drove in a run with a groundout, and Barrrett followed that up with an RBI single and the Vikings led 4-1 after two innings.
TCS added a run in the third, but Madden prevented a potential big inning, throwing out the runner trying to advance to third base.
The Vikings added three in the fourth; Maldonado Jr reached on an error, Barrett drove in a run on a sacrifice fly, and Brodrick made it a 7-2 game on an RBI single. Maldonado Jr and Brodrick also drove in runs in the fifth to give Grayson the 9-2 advantage.
TCS plated three in the sixth, to draw within 9-5, but the Vikings weren't phased.
Liam Krauss led off the sixth with a double, and scored on an RBI triple from Harrell. Maldonado Jr scored a run with a single, and Barrett loaded the bases with a walk. Sanchez drove in two with a single, and Andrew Schultz ended the game with a hard single to the outfield.
Harrell finished 3-3 with four runs scored, and an RBI. Maldonado Jr drove in three on a 2-4 day at the plate. Barrett, Sanchez and Brodrick all drove in two runs each.
Neuendschwander started the game, striking out three over two innings pitched. Beau Beaty and Chase Davis tossed an inning of relief, and Harrison Rosar threw the final two innings out of the bullpen for the Vikings. 

Grayson resumes conference play this week with a four game series against Ranger!
