Nine run fifth inning lifts Vikings to DH split

A nine run fifth inning in game two helped the Vikings earn the doubleheader split with a 13-3 victory over Ranger in five innings on Wednesday, March 20. 

The bottom third of the Grayson lineup (Mason Ruiz, Jacob Lang and John Maldonado Jr) came up clutch, combining for seven RBI in the victory.
Ranger struck for a run in the first inning, and led 3-0 in the third inning when the Viking bats went to work.
Brandon Seidmeyer led off with a triple, and scored on a groundout from Trey Oblas to pull within 3-1. After Ruiz flyed out, Tyler Brodrick and Jackson Harrell drew back-to-back walks. Lang tied the game with a two run double, and Maldonado Jr gave them the lead for good with an RBI single for a 4-3 lead.
Ruiz extended the lead to 5-3 with a blast to right field to get the nine run inning started. Brodrick and Harrell both drew walks, and Lang brought home a run with a sacrifice fly. Maldonado Jr followed with a double, and Sloan Barrett drew a walk to load the bases. Two batters later, Seidmeyer reached on a fielding error that scored two runs, and the Vikings batted around sending 13 men to the plate in the fifth inning. Ruiz drove in two more runs with a single, Harrell followed suit with another two run single, and Lang ended the game with a run scoring single getting mobbed by his teammates between first base and the pitchers mound.
Lang finished his day 2-2 with 4 RBI, Harrell reached base in all four plate appearances, drawing three walks, and driving in a pair. Ruiz finished 2-4 with a home run and drove in three. Maldonado Jr had a pair of hits and an RBI.
On the mound, Chase Davis got the win in relief, tossing two shutout innings, giving up just one hit and striking out three. Grady Moore started the game, and went three innings, giving up six hits, three runs, striking out two.

In game one, the Viking rally came up just short in a 6-2 defeat to Ranger.
Ranger put up three in the first, and one in the fourth to go up 4-0.
Oblas put Grayson on the board with a home run off the scoreboard in right center field to bring Grayson within 4-1.
A home run in the fifth from Ranger put the Viking deficit at 6-1. Maldonado Jr had an RBI double in the bottom of the fifth, but they were unable to draw any closer.
Maldonado Jr led the Vikings with a 2-3 day at the plate, driving in a run. Oblas finished 1-3 with the home run. Ruiz reached base in all three plate appearances, drawing two walks to go along with a double.
Jack Livingstone started the game, going four innings, giving up just one earned run, and striking out three. Beau Beatty, Bosten Dwinell, and David Jeon each threw an inning out of the bullpen. 


The series shifts to Ranger for two games this Saturday, March 23. First pitch will be at 12 pm and 2 pm.
