For the second time in two games, the Vikings faced an eight run deficit. Both times, they came back and won; the most recent being a 10-9 victory in game one against No. 7 Weatherford on Thursday, April 11.
Game one
In the blink of an eye, the Weatherford Coyotes jumped out to an 8-0 lead after three innings (they scored six runs in the third), but much like the Vikings did against Tyler earlier in the week, they continued fighting.
Sloan Barrett was hit by a pitch, and came around to score on a RBI double from Walker Polk down the left field line. Tyler Brodrick and Mason Ruiz drew back-to-back walks to load the bases in the third inning. Blake McCarthy worked a walk for the second run, and Brandon Seidmeyer capped the inning with a two run single, and the Vikings pulled within 8-4 at the end of the third inning.
An RBI double with two out in the fourth from Brodrick, scored Barrett who worked a one out walk.
In the fifth, McCarthy led off with a double. Seidmeyer and Trey Oblas both worked walks to load the bases. Jacob Lang hit a sacrifice fly to the warning track to score a run, and Barrett knocked in a run with a single, and the Vikings were within 8-7 at the end of five.
Weatherford added a run in the sixth, but the Vikings continued clawing at the lead.
Brodrick led off with a single, and McCarthy worked a one out walk. Seidmeyer drove in his third run of the game with an RBI single. Oblas drew a walk to load the bases, and facing a two strike count, Lang laced a single to right for the go-ahead two runs.
Chase Davis shut things down in the seventh for the save, getting a pair of strikeouts and a groundout to end the game, and secure the win for the Vikings.
Seidmeyer and Lang led offensively, both driving in three runs each. Sedimeyer, Brodrick and Barrett all finished 2-3.
On the mound, Harrison Rosar picked up the win in relief for Grayson. He threw two innings giving up just one run, and striking out two. David Jeon also worked two innings out of the bullpen for Grayson, getting a pair of strikeouts and giving up just one hit and one run.
Game two
Weatherford scored in every inning but two in an 8-3 victory in game two.
With the Vikings trailing 4-0 in the fourth inning, the offense battled.
John Maldonado Jr worked a two out walk, and came around to score on an RBI double from Seidmeyer.
Weatherford scored two runs over the next two innings to put Grayson in a 6-1 hole.
McCarthy led off the sixth inning with a double, and came around to score on a groundout by Kain Sanchez to draw within 6-2. An RBI double from Ruiz in the seventh inning brought the Vikings within 6-3, but a run in the eighth and ninth sealed the win for Weatherford.
Polk, Ruiz, McCarthy, Seidmeyer and Sanchez all recorded hits for the Vikings.
